The Rockpool by Kerith Ogden and Bee Jasco

Kerith Ogden is an artist and maker of things, creating puppets, lanterns, structures and costumes. Jimmy, pictured above, is a previous creation.

Premiering at Arts by the Sea, the Rockpool, a brand new piece for 2017, is a sideshow set in a fictional future, where marine life has evolved to be able to consume the discarded plastics of our present world.

The plastic has become part of them and the rockpools are filled with living hybrid chimeras—plastic chip-fork sea urchins, colourful drink-bottle sea anenomes, seabirds that have bred with yellow plastic ducks, battered lego fish and plastic-bag seaweed.

The Rockpool is an Open Call Commission by Kerith Ogden and Bee Jasco, one of three successful applicants to the 2017 Open Call for artistic proposals.
