Arts by the Sea Associate Artists and long-time collaborators, Ithaca Studio, present a new outdoor adaptation of their large-scale outdoor light extravaganza, Sea of Light, especially designed for Bournemouth 2020 and the ‘new normal’. A pixel-mapped field of thousands of light spheres will be arranged in Central Bournemouth to allow audiences to enjoy a dazzling 360-degree sound and light experience from a variety of viewpoints, without crowding. The lights will be accompanied by a surround-sound music composition for a truly magical, immersive yet socially distanced experience.
ITHACA Studio are Chris, Andy, Selina and Felix; a group of award-winning experimenters who combine art, music and technology to make innovative experiences with sound and light, which come to life both indoors and out.
Previous ITHACA works presented at Bournemouth Arts by the Sea include ‘Travelling Light’ from 2016 where the Central Gardens Pergola was transformed into a motion-sensitive light bridge with an exotic soundtrack of faraway lands. To most recently in 2019 where the Brighton-based experimenters curated the personal sound and light installations, ‘Cocoon’. Hanging pods allowed festival-goers to experience an immersive cocoon of light and sound in a new and unique way.
This event is FREE but ticketed to allow social- distancing. Head to our FAQs to find out more about COVID safety. Tickets and more information on the time and location of this installation will be available from early September.
