Graffiti artist and graphic designer Ricky Also stages a custom-design at Arts by the Sea. Fitting with the festival’s theme of ‘journeys’, Also’s work considers the ever-changing and uncertain world we live in, and how it is more important than ever to celebrate the 'here' and 'now’.
His supergraphic 3D installation titled ‘You Are Here', pinpoints a place and moment in time. This bold installation, built as a bespoke structure around interlocking blocks of colour, geometric shapes and letters, gives us a visual reminder to stop and enjoy the present time, place and people you are with. Life’s a journey, not a destination.
Ricky Also is a local artist from Bournemouth and creative director of Paintshop Studio. He is well known for his large-scale manipulated typographic works that interlock in multiple layers. With the majority of his work taking the form of 2D painted murals, this latest installation is an exciting development into three-dimensional work. At his award-winning commercial design practice, Paintshop Studio, he aims to change spaces and environments through art and design, such as with the Upside Gallery, a huge, free, outdoor street art gallery utilising the towering pillars of the Wessex Way, found in Bournemouth’s Central Gardens.
No ticket required; the installation is situated in Lower Gardens opposite the Bandstand. It is open access for you to visit at any time but please do not touch the installation and maintain social distancing from others during your visit.
