Associate Artist Scheme

September 13th

The Arts by the Sea Associate Artist Scheme was relaunched in 2018 to coincide with the festival’s successful NPO funding result from Arts Council England.

Reflecting a new focus on tailored artist development, each year the festival works with a selected artist throughout 12 months. With research and development at the heart of the initiative, this scheme involves a financial award, mentoring from the festival’s producers, the design of a pilot project by the artist and a bespoke consultancy plan to assist with progressing the artwork.

The festival aims to support the artist throughout development of their work, and if appropriate offer an opportunity to present the finished piece during the following festival, ultimately supporting the creation of work that can then go on to be shown elsewhere.

This year Arts by the Sea is pleased to be working with Will Simpson, who created ‘Rising Sun’ and ‘The Secret Life of Trees’ for previous Arts by the Sea festivals. An artist working in a range of media, who is originally from Bournemouth, Will is working with Arts by the Sea to explore a new concept-installation, with the working title of ‘PRISM’. This artwork concept draws upon digital, kinetic and weather powered technology, and will involve a pilot activity at the festival this year.

Keep checking the Arts by the Sea website for more information on PRISM.
