Excellent news for Dorset Tourism businesses and organisations as the finalists for the Dorset Tourism Awards have been announced after the ten-month extended period. With 91 entries received and 60 finalists selected, this year proves as an exciting year as many as the competition celebrates its eighth year running whilst during unprecedented times for tourism. 

Chair of the Judging Panel Professor Peter Jones adds his congratulations: “Dorset tourism, like tourism the world over, is demonstrating resilience and fortitude in coping with the impact and implications of Covid-19 in some amazing ways. This year’s entries into the Dorset Tourism Awards are no exception. Entrants demonstrated creativity and innovation, passion for the industry, and enthusiasm in providing a great experience for their customers in the most difficult of circumstances. 

Among the finalists, we are proud to announce that Dorset Moon has been selected as a finalist in the Tourism Event/Festival category. Huge excitement for all involved in the Dorset Festivals Consortium including Arts by the Sea, Activate Performing Arts, B-side and The Arts Development Company who commissioned the installation. 

In a unique collaboration on the eve of the fiftieth anniversary of the first moon landing, the Dorset Moon summer arts event was an incredible success. Over June and July, 2019 more than 41,000 people enjoyed Luke Jerrams’s monumental Museum of the Moon installation in three stunning locations- St Peter’s Church, Bournemouth; Sherbourne Abbey and the Nothe Fort at Weymouth. 

Each location where Dorset Moon was presented also featured a full supporting programme of cultural activities and performances named ‘Under The Moon’ with many of the pieces commissioned especially for Dorset Moon. All events were free to enter.
