Freelance Business Development Manager/ Fundraiser Job Opportunity

Job Summary

This is a great opportunity at the Arts by the Sea Festival for a motivated Freelance Business Development Manager/ Fundraiser to play a key role in helping the festival become financially sustainable. The annual Festival attracts 150k visitors and contributes £2.5m to the local economy.

Job Description

Come and work with the BCP Festival Team and our Programming and Marketing partners, to identify funding opportunities, develop and implement a fundraising strategy and generate income from a range of different sources.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Raise funds that will support the operation, financial sustainability and creative development of the Arts by the Sea Festival.
  2. Create a short-term fundraising action plan to be put into immediate effect that will raise income to agreed target levels.
  3. Create a long-term fundraising strategy aimed at growing the festival in size and scale and developing its financial sustainability by identifying and onboarding commercial partners
  4. Grow the Festival’s profile by engaging and developing close relationships with donors, investors, supporters, and the business community
  5. Research and present viability assessments of funding sources to the festival team.
  6. Create sponsorship / activation levels offering clear paths to partnership at varying financial entry points.
  7. Work with the Festival Team and Marketing Lead to create sponsorship offers, activations, campaigns and individual giving packages.
  8. Create a viable case for support, develop bids, pursue fundraising opportunities, and negotiate sponsorship deals.
  9. Liaise with secured sponsors and oversee delivery of the agreed activations.
  10. Partner with the Festival Manager on the organisation and hosting of in person events and VIP/Press Guests.
  11. Work with the Festival Manager to design and produce a Partners, Newsletter.
  12. Work with the Festival Manager to prepare and distribute a targeted and appropriate Impact Report to commercial partners.

Fee £5,000 for a 10 month contract PLUS 7% commission on all funds raised over £20,000

Interviews will be held on 24th March 2023 (in Bournemouth or remotely)

Start Date will be early April 2023

Job Requirements

  • Successful track record in securing financial support from different funding sources and meeting agreed fundraising targets.
  • Ability to think strategically, seek out opportunities and make compelling arguments for support.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience of campaign/ project management.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadline.
  • Strong personal management skills – highly motivated, and proactive in planning, prioritising, and managing own work.
  • Good understanding of the financial needs of the arts sector.
  • An understanding of and commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Job Responsibilities

The post-holder will work flexibly, managing their own hours and will be expected to report on a weekly basis to the Festival Manager and attend relevant stakeholder meetings (for example quarterly Steering Group meetings and team conference calls where appropriate)
