Mr. Woodpecker’s House

Queen's Park Golf Course, Bournemouth

Something has happened to Mr. Woodpecker’s house… and he needs your help! Mr. Woodpecker’s House is a participatory art installation and storytelling experience for children and families, hosted by Woodpecker Café Bar as part of the Arts by the Sea Fringe Festival. Over the course of the week, visitors will help grow a magical papier mâché tree inside the café by colouring leaves, writing letters, and decorating birds. We are here… together. Children receive a letter from Mr. Woodpecker inviting them to take part in restoring his home. Each day, new leaves are added to the tree, showing how small acts of care and creativity are important, and contribute to the space that we all occupy together. On Saturday 4 (morning) and Sunday 5 October, families can join in hands-on workshops to decorate birds and listen to natural soundscapes playing in the venue. The installation evolves throughout the week, reflecting the power of community and participation. Materials are recycled or repurposed. This immersive experience is designed to be inclusive and suitable for children aged 2–12, with activities tailored to different age groups. Adults are also welcome to join in.
