The Yeoman of the Guard – Christchurch G&S Society 2025

Following on from their NODA award nominated production of “The Pirates of Penzance” last year, to celebrate the society’s 40th anniversary, Christchurch Gilbert and Sullivan Society are very pleased to announce that they have selected "The Yeomen of the Guard" as their September production for this year. "Yeomen", subtitled 'The Merryman and His Maid', was the 11th of the Savoy Operettas, premiered in October 1888 and ran for 423 performances. It is set in the Tower of London during King Henry VIII's reign and is the most emotionally engaging of all their works. Critics considered the score to be Sullivan's finest and the libretto contains considerable humour. The plot is quite intricate but the complexities are all finally and cleverly resolved.
